Branding photography: Blue Whale Communications

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of working with Nikki of Blue Whale Communications, a content marketing guru who specializes in writing thoughtful content for a number of different businesses.

I asked Nikki how she started off in business. This was her response:

“Blue Whale was born out of two things: a passion for writing, and a desire to help good people succeed in business. After working in marketing and communications roles for everything from small non-profits to national tech companies, and in the private and public sectors, I decided it was time to take my passion for writing and storytelling and use it to help values-based businesses. I truly believe that when people and companies who are doing good things succeed in their journey, everyone is better for it. And I love getting to really know clients’ stories and sharing them with the rest of the world.”

Nikki was in search of some fresh photos of herself that would help tell her story and showcase more of her personality. We struggled to find a spot to take these photos of Nikki because we scheduled our shoot on Good Friday. A lot of coffee shops were either closed or unable to accommodate us. We settled on Raw Pulp and Grind in Westboro. It has a beautiful barn board wall where fresh plants are hung.

Each day in the office looks different for Nikki. Some days involve client coaching calls, other days she’s interviewing amazing people living and working around the world and writing feature articles or blog posts. Whatever the day holds, there is always coffee. So we decided we had to incorporate a cup of coffee into our photos.

After a few photos there, we headed out on the streets of Westboro to scout out some spots for some other photos of Nikki. I knew I wanted to use the white brick mural outside of Lululemon. We happened to stumbled upon this other cool mural, also at Richmond and Churchill, which was dark blue and fitting with her brand colours.

I asked Nikki how she got into writing:

“I’ve always known I wanted a career in writing – I started writing poetry in middle school! After high school I went to Journalism school because I wasn’t sure what other options there were. I eventually transitioned into Communications, then Public Relations, and have finally settled into a niche specialty of content writing.”

I had so much fun with Blue Whale Communications, creating fresh content for her social media and website. Interested in booking a similar session? Get in touch for all the collection options! Email me at info@thenotleycreative.com or contact me through this form!
